General Notes: Husband - Roderick McCoy

He was a shoemaker and followed the trade in Sheakleyville, Mercer County, PA, and died as a faithful member of the Baptist church. His political allegiance to the Republican Party was as stanch as his support of Baptist tenets in religion, and besides serving as postmaster of Sheakleyville he was constable for a number of years and was otherwise honored with local offices.

General Notes: Wife - Mary E. Hofford

She succeeded her husband in the post office in the month of April, 1869, and her certificate was signed by J. A. J. Creswell, postmaster general of the United States, on the 6th of October of that year. At her retirement she was the oldest incumbent of her sex in the postal service of the United States. She was an incumbent of the office for forty years, or for half the period of her venerable life.
Like her husband, she was always an active member of the Baptist church.
