General Notes: Husband - Joseph Hupp

He attended the subscription schools in Donegal Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, in his boyhood, but as the farm was very large, he began to assist his father taking care of the land and live stock when quite young. He became one of the great sheep growers of the county, frequently having from 800 to 1,500 on the farm at one time. He was one of the earliest farmers in the section to recognize the value of what became the grange movement, and identified himself with the Patrons of Husbandry. In his political views he was a Republican, but he would never hamper himself with the cares of public office. He was a consistent member and liberal supporter of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
