He graduated at the Edinboro State Normal school and then taught for a time. While teaching he turned his attention to the study of medicine and entered Hahnemann Medical College at Philadelphia from which institution he was graduated with the degree of M. D. Commencing practice at Allegheny City, he was very successful there, at one time being city physician for three years. After ten years' successful medical practice Dr. McIlroy began the study of dentistry, graduating from a dental college in Philadelphia and he developed a large practice in Butler, PA.
