General Notes: Husband - Rev. Nathaniel Randolph Snowden, D.D.
He was descended from one of the oldest families of Pennsylvania, his ancestor, John Snowden, being the owner of land within the state as far back as 1678. Branches of the family settled about the same time in Virginia and Maryland. [HVC 1890, 174]
He descended from a family that settled at Barnstable, Massachusetts, in 1630. [HVC 1890, 192]
He was the first Presbyterian preacher at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to which place he removed from Philadelphia when the state capital was a mere hamlet. [HVC 1890, 174]
He came from east of the mountains, and was a man of good education and culture. In 1798 he was pastor of the Presbyterian churches of Paxton and Derry, near Harrisburg. In 1805 he was pastor of the Second Presbyterian church in Pittsburgh; in 1824 he was at Millersburg, Pennsylvania. While in Franklin, he taught in the old academy. [HVC 1890, 364]
He was the father of six children, four of whom were physicians.
