General Notes: Husband - William F. Peoples

---

When his father went west he was taken and reared by a prominent farmer of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, William Chain, and his wife Nancy. They died when he was nineteen, and he apprenticed himself to a blacksmith in Fountain Mills (now Scottdale) where he followed his trade for some fifteen years. At the end of that time he removed to Cowansburg, and there worked at his trade during the remainder of his life. He was a broad reader, well-informed as to current events, an active worker in the Republican party and a member of the Baptist church.
