He learned the trade of a cabinetmaker and painter which he followed all his life, being a resident of Murrysville and Export, Franklin township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

He and his wife were the parents of six children; four were still living in 1906.

He died at the age of sixty-seven.
