General Notes: Husband - Col. Elias Berlin
Other sources state he was born in 1802 or 1803. Another souce states he was born in Fairfield Township.
He was a man of strong character and great business ability, following farming, stock raising and real estate dealing all his life, becoming one of the wealthiest men in his section of the county, Franklin township. He was an ardent Democrat, took a deep interest in public and military affairs, was a colonel of militia and a very conspicuous figure. He was a dignified, courteous gentleman and left an honored name. For many years he was a deacon and an elder of the Lutheran church and lived an exemplary life, the proof of the sincerity of his professions.
For some time he was colonel of the "Cornstalk militia," which frequently paraded at Clover Hill, Washington township, where the parades were attended by all the people in the surrounding country and were often memorable occasions indeed.
He was educated in the common schools of his day. His childhood was spent on a farm and he continued to follow agricultural pursuits all his life. For many years he was a colonel in the Pennsylvania militia.
