General Notes: Husband - William Kilgore Porch
Born on his father's farm in Mount Pleasant township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, he passed his childhood and early youth in his native place. These years were spent in learning the work of the farm and also in attending the local public schools where he received such formal education as he enjoyed. When twenty-three years of age, he was married; he worked on farm with father, living with him, and then left his father's home and settled on a farm purchased by him in Mount Pleasant township, about one mile northeast of the old homestead, two miles from Kecksburg and twelve miles southeast of Greensburg. This farm he actively operated until the year 1911, carrying on general farming operations. While still a young man he bought a store at Kecksburg, where he remained for ten years, and he was also postmaster of that town for a time under President McKinley.
In 1899 he came to another farm. This property, which comprised some one hundred and seventeen acres, was known as the old Overly farm. Mr. Porch rebuilt the old house and operated the farm and carried on general farming operations.
He was prominent in the social and fraternal circles of the community, and was a member of the local lodges of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias of Mount Pleasant.
