General Notes: Husband - Andrew Liddle

He was born in Ireland, but was early left an orphan and during boyhood experienced many vicissitudes. In March, 1848, he took passage on a sailing vessel for America and landed at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He had worked as a farmer and gardener in his native land and secured employment along these lines with men who owned large estates near Wilmington, Delaware. As soon as he had acquired sufficient capital, he bought fifty acres of land for himself, a partially improved tract situated in Brady (later in Sandy) township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. He married and within ten years comfortable buildings were erected on their farm, which gradually increased as to acreage, and the time came when hundreds of acres belonged to the couple, all earned through industry and frugality. He and wife were members of the Episcopal church at DuBois. In politics, Mr. Liddle was a Democrat and he was one of the first men in his township to be elected to the office of school director.
