General Notes: Husband - "Squire" James Ewing

In or about the year 1775, he came to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and soon thereafter moved to Robinson township, Allegheny County, to near where the later town of Walker's Mills was located. He purchased a tract of land on Robinson's run, extending on the east and west side of the creek from the present towns of Mansfield to Walker's Mills. In this tract were some nine hundred acres, to which he afterward made additional purchases, owning at one time about two thousand acres.

He was the first recorder for the Court of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, which was organized in 1788 from a part of Washington County and a part of Westmoreland County.

It does not seem that James Ewing was in the revolutionary army, but it does appear that before the war took place, he joined a militia company and received a commission as lieutenant from Lord Dunmore, Governor of Virginia, probably about 1770, when the claims of Virginia were most stongly asserted over the region at the head of the Ohio River.

The Ewings owned slaves whom they freed about the year 1800 and gave to each a piece of land and log house.

General Notes: Wife - Mary McKown

She may have been the daughter of William McComb, a Presbyterian elder and first coroner of Washington County, Pennsylvania, in 1781.
