General Notes: Husband - William Fulton Euwer

After he mastered the elementary branches of learning, he taught in the common schools; he continued his education in Parnassus Academy, and at the age of sixteen years entered the store of the firm of Arthur & Showdelmyer, at Allegheny City, as an errand boy. He was later made clerk, having charge of one counter, and subsequently was advanced to a general clerkship, continuing in the store for about three years, when he resigned and accepted a position with his father in Verona. After two years he became a stock-holder in the firm. In 1897 he severed his connection with that house, removed to Jeannette, and in partnership with George Whitmyer, purchased the furniture and carpet business of E. G. Euwer. He had other business aside from merchandising, being one of the directors in the Jeannette National Bank, the president of the Jeannette Oil and Gas Company, and the treasurer of the Jeannette and West Newton Street Railway Company. Mr. Euwer was a Republican, and belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church, in which he served as a trustee. He also held membership with the Improved Order of Heptasophs and with the Maccabees.

He received the early part of his education in the schools of Bellevue, Pennsylvania, where his parents moved when he was but an infant, and later attended the public schools of Allegheny City, Pennsylvania. When he was fifteen years of age, he left school and secured a position with the firm of Arthur & Schondemyer, situated on Ohio street, Allegheny City, where he remained for a period of three years, during which time he rose from the humble position to which he was assigned when he entered the establishment to that of salesman. Having become acquainted with business methods in general, he resigned from this position and entered the employ of his father's business, located at Verona, Pennsylvania. It was here that he acquired a thorough knowledge of the furniture, carpet and clothing business, in which line he was later to become permanently identified. For nine years the young man remained with his father, at the end of which period the establishment changed hands on account of the death of the senior member. By this time, however, Mr. Euwer, Jr., was part owner himself, and selling out his interest came to Jeannette, Pennsylvania, in the year 1897, and with his father-in-law, George Whitmyer, bought out the business of his uncle, E. G. Euwer, the pioneer furniture man of Jeannette. At the time of this purchase, the store was part of a two-story building, twenty by one hundred feet, and in 1903 an extra story was added and the floor space increased to forty by one hundred feet. In 1910 Mr. Euwer bought out his partner's interest, made further additions and improvements, and in 1912 he opened a branch store at Youngwood, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Euwer was very prominent in both social and club life and was identified with the Greensburg Country Club, the Knights of Pythias, where he took the third degree; the Junior Order of American Mechanics, and he was an ardent devotee of outdoor sports, principally golf and tennis. He was affiliated politically with the Republican party.
