General Notes: Husband - Jonathan Large
He was born in New Jersey, and came to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, when young. He married, bought a farm near Lebanon church, built a distillery and tramp-mill, which later he disposed of and purchased a place on Peters creek, Jefferson township, known as the Ferree purchase. This place was later owned by his son, Henry.
He was one of the most active men in his day in the building up of the Pennsylvania militia, of which he was brigadier-general. [HAC 1889 II, 738]
Peters creek derives its name from an old Indian trapper called Peter. It was on the Large farm that a fort was built, in a field known as "fort-field," only accessible from one point, being a natural fortification and affording a view of nearly eight miles up and down the creek.
