Cross Creek, Washington Co, PA

This family was among the early pioneers of Washington County, Pennsylvania.
For thirty years he was a justice of the peace; was commissioner two terms, and at one time was in the State Legislature, representing Washington County.

He was a native of Scotland, and was just a lad when he came to America with his parents, the family coming out to southwestern Pennsylvania and settling in Cross Creek township, Washington County. James became a substantial farmer and landowner of that township, served for a number of years as justice of the peace in and for that township and also represented his district for several terms in the state legislature.

In 1893 his widow was residing in New Cumberland, West Virginia.
