General Notes: Husband - Samuel Burnett Dornon
He attended the common schools of his birthplace and was taught in the Protestant faith. In due time he learned the shoemaker's trade which became his means of livelihood. In 1845 he emigrated to the United States and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he established the manufacture of ready-to-wear shoes, selling to retailers, etc., and for fifteen years conducted that business successfully. At the end of that time, by reason of his wife's failing health, he moved west of the mountains and in the spring of 1859 settled in New Alexandria, Westmoreland County. He is said to have been a man of literary ability, a great reader and ready public debater. He was a devout Christian and a member of the United Presbyterian church.
