General Notes: Husband - Edward Elisha Donohoe
He obtained a good education in the public schools of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He began business as clerk in his father's Greensburg store, and from 1878 until 1890 that association continued. From junior clerk he rose to a partnership, the firm trading as Thomas Donohoe & Son. After retiring from mercantile life in 1890, Mr. Donohoe was for a time in the employ of the receiver of the Hotchkiss Nut and Bolt Company, entering the employ of the Alexandria Coal Company in the autumn of 1891. He was placed in charge of the Greensburg office of the company, and in addition to the work of the coal company he also was in charge of the office work of the Madison Gas and Coal Company. He held this dual position until the year 1900, then became secretary-treasurer of the Donohoe Coke Company. During the years which have been but briefly reviewed, Mr. Donohoe had acquired other important corporate interests in which he held official position. He was secretary-treasurer of the Donohoe Water Company, secretary-treasurer of the Western Coal and Coke Company, and secretary-treasurer of the John P. Donohoe Company, Limited, S. F. Potter & Company, Limited, Donohoe Coke Company, Potter Coal and Coke Company, these companies being among the prosperous corporations centering in Greensburg.
He was a Republican in politics, a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Westmoreland Country Club and the Fulton County Rod and Gun Club, his recreations those of the great out of doors.
