General Notes: Husband - Andrew Davis

He gained his early education in the public schools of Sugar Grove township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and Adamsville Academy, and assisted his father in his farming operations until he was nineteen years of age. He then commenced teaching in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, and continued thus engaged for fourteen terms. During the summer months of this period he was engaged in farming and finally became the owner of two farms, one in Crawford and the other in Mercer county. In 1886 he abandoned farming and located at Greenville, where, in 1887, he purchased the old Goodwin flour mill and continued in this business until 1895, in which year the mill burned down. He finally disposed of his farms in Mercer and Crawford counties and purchased what is known as the Dr. Packard farm, near Greenville. He rented this property until the fall of 1907, when he sold it to a Pittsburgh syndicate. For many years he was a strong factor in the financial and industrial enterprises of his home town, being a stockholder and one of the directors in the Greenville National Bank for twenty-one years; and a stockholder and director of the Greenville Gas Company for two decades and for many years he was a stockholder in the New First National Bank of Meadville. Of this last named institution he was one of the organizers. He is a Republican of considerable prominence. His terms as a member of the Greenville city council commenced respectively in 1898 and 1905. As to his church connections it may be added that he united with the Covenanters' church when he was eighteen years of age, but later joined the United Presbyterian church, of which he became one of the elders. He was a member of the Odd Fellows order, Alhambra Lodge, No. 293.
