General Notes: Husband - Alexander Davenny

He was reared and educated in his native county and learned the trade of carpentry. During the early days of the oil industry in Venango County he went to the oil fields and worked at his trade there and on his return to Mercer County settled on the homestead, where he engaged in farming for three and a half years. Moving to Sheakleyville, he worked at his trade for a time, then bought an interest in a planing mill of which he later became sole owner and to that business he devoted his time until his death. He was reared a Presbyterian but after his marriage became a Methodist and was an ardent and earnest worker in that church, having served as class leader, trustee and steward and also as a teacher in the Sunday school. For many years Mr. Davenny was a Republican, but in his later life became a Prohibitionist. [HMC 1909, 989]
