He and his brother Robert were in the army at Black Rock, New York, in 1814, during the War of 1812.
The three brothers, John, Robert, and Archibald Curry, made several trips to New Orleans in flat-boats; on one occasion Archibald walking the entire distance home to Washington County, Pennsylvania.
