DIES OF SHOCK AFTER SHOOTING
Elmer Cummings, 18, Passed Away at Omer Hospital Friday Evening. Gun Shot Causes Leg Amputation.
Unable to withstand the shock of a serious gunshot wound and an operation to amputate his leg where the injury was located caused the death of Elmer Miles Cummings, 18, of Sterling last Friday night.
Cummings was hunting last Tuesday near his home west of Sterling with a party of friends from Bay City. He was taken to Smith Hospital, Omer, where it was necessary to amputate the leg because of gangerine developing in the injured leg. The double shock of the shooting and amputation caused his death at 7:00 o'clock Friday evening. Elmer was the son of Mrs. Daisy Mamerow. He was born at Moores Junction Oct 3, 1914.
Funeral Services were held Monday in Sterling at 1:00 p. m. at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Lusher, with whom he made his home, and at 2:00 o'clock at the Sterling M. E. church, with the Rev. G. T. Nevin officiating. Burial was made in the Sterling cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his mother and grandparents are one brother, Henry, Sterling, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fox.
Elmer was born in Moores Junction and had formerly been a resident of Bay City.
