General Notes: Husband - William Brownlee Crothers

His earlier years were spent at home, alternately working on the farm, and attending the district school, at which he secured a thorough knowledge of the common branches. He began farming in early life, and continued in that calling, devoting much attention to stock raising. He was a successful farmer, and owned a farm of 500 acres, on which he made many improvements. In early life he united with the United Presbyterian Church, and was ever an active member, holding some important offices.
Politically, Mr. Crothers was an ardent supporter of the principles of Republicanism and Protection. He took pride in the prosperous condition of American workmen, and saw in the protective tariff the lever which placed them so far above the laborers of Europe. In the heat of the campaign he would succumb to the excitement, and could often been found in the thickest of the fray laboring zealously for the success of the party. He was not, however, bound by party ties, but freely attributed to others the same rights he claimed for himself-the right of an honest opinion-and many of his most intimate friends were his political opponents.

Immediately following their marriage, he and his wife located on a farm in Buffalo township, near Taylorstown, which property he had purchased in 1859.

Mr. Crothers was endowed by nature with a powerful frame and rugged constitution, and the passing years having left but few traces, he was still in the prime of life as he approached sixty years of age.
