General Notes: Husband - Samuel Craig

He was saved in early life from an Indian slaughter by being hidden with his mother in a field of rye. Crossing the Allegheny river, coming from Hannastown, at what is now Johnetta, he settled in what is now Craigsville, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. He was a pioneer farmer and stock raiser, and helped in clearing much of the land. At one time he was owner of four hundred acres. Near the left bank of Big Buffalo creek he erected a fulling mill.

He was born near Hannastown, Pennsylvania, and was one of the little children in the fort when Hannastown was burned by the Indians. He was in his fifteenth year when the family moved to Armstrong County but returned for a short time to Westmoreland to learn the trade of "Fuller". He worked at this trade for a few years and then devoted his time to farming. He was a leading abolitionist when the slavery question was agitated. His residence was near Craigsville.
