General Notes: Husband - Judge William Horton


About 1793 he removed from Cortlandt and settled at Colchester, Delaware County, New York. In 1794 he was elected commissioner of highways. During the years 1797 to 1801 he was one of the judges of the court of common pleas of Delaware County. In 1798 he represented the county in the legislature of the state.

He was one of the early settlers of Colchester, Delaware County, New York. He was a man of means and prominence, and stood high in the esteem of his fellow citizens, by whom he was chosen Judge, being the first to hold that office in the county. For many years he carried on lumbering and tanning in a small way.

He was born in Yorktown, New York, and settled in Somers; later, in 1789, he removed to Colchester, Delaware County, New York. Here he carried on a tanning business, was engaged quite extensively in lumbering, and owned a grist mill, in successful operation. He became a man of prominence, and in 1794 was elected to the legislature. Later he served as president judge of Ulster County, Ulster and Delaware counties then being one.
