He was educated in the public schools, and learned the carpenter's trade. His home was in McKean County, Pennsylvania, but he was largely engaged in the erection of chemical works and tanneries (which he made his specialty) and was obliged to be out of the county a great deal. He was a Republican in politics.
He died at Smethport, Pennsylvania, by drowning.
