General Notes: Husband - Nathaniel S. Falconer

He received his first scholastic training in the district schools of Warren County, Pennsylvania, in the vicinity of Sugar Grove. He came to Warren when about fifteen years old, and attended the Warren Union School, where he finished his education. Leaving this institution of learning at the age of twenty-one, he immediately enlisted in the Union Army (1861), in company H, Tenth Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserve Corps, and remained in the service until 1863. He was in the division commanded by general McClellan, and took part in the conflict at White Oak Swamp, in which engagement he was wounded. His discharge followed in 1863.
Shortly after he enlisted, and on the organization of the regiment, June 21, 1861, having been duly sworn in by Gen. W. T. Sherman, he was appointed quartermaster sergeant. When he was wounded, which was about a year previous to his discharge, he was taken to the Government hospital at Baltimore, Maryland, and during the year he was in the hospital he had charge of the hospital records. Upon his discharge therefrom he came to Warren, and entered the railway mail service of the United States, in October, 1863, serving two years. At the end of this time he resigned and went into business for himself as a builder, in which line he continued until 1872. Giving up that business, he was reappointed to the mail service.
