General Notes: Husband - William Butler

He learned the trade of caulker and boat builder after leaving his father's farm at the age of twenty-one years. He resided in Monongahela City until his first wife's death, but after his return from the Civil War located in Webster, Pennsylvania. He served three years in a regiment of Pennsylvania infantry, with the hard fought Army of the Potomac and in battle received a bayonet thrust through his knee. He worked at his trade until advancing years warned him to desist and for several years lived a quiet, retired life.
