General Notes: Husband - Andrew Brest


He was educated in Springfield Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and at the age of sixteen years began working for himself by the day at from 25 cents to 50 cents. He bought his first piece of land in 1846, and in 1862 he moved to Jefferson Township.
He united with the Methodist Church when young, and was class-leader and steward in the same, and his wife was a member of this church from the age of fifteen.
Civil War: He enlisted in Company E, Fifty-sixth Pennsylvania Volunteers, as did also his brothers, Washington and James.

He and his wife reared John L. Young from the age of five years, and Della Layman, taking the latter from the industrial schools of Cleveland.
