General Notes: Husband - John Brake

He was born and reared where his son, John S., later lived. He was a farmer, and commenced for himself when only seventeen years old, working hard until he saved enough money to purchase a farm; at one time he owned 320 acres.

He was drafted in the War of 1812, but paid his fine, being then only seventeen years of age. When a young man he moved to where his son, Solomon, later lived and, in partnership with Frederick Deck, bought 300 acres of land, which they afterward divided, Mr. Brake taking the buildings and 100 acres of land. He lived there until his death, which occurred quite suddenly of apoplexy.
