General Notes: Husband - Archibald Black, Jr.

He was the youngest in a family of eleven children and spent his boyhood days on the farm, assisting his parents in clearing and improving it, wearing the home-made clothing, and enjoying the limited advantages of the period. For a few weeks during the winter season he attended the subscription school of the neighborhood. After marriage, he and his wife settled on the old family homestead, and two years later rented a farm, which they afterwards purchased, to which they added until the farm contained 300 acres, all in Donegal township. On this farm were located forty-one oil wells. He and his family were members of St. Patrick's Catholic church, at Sugar Creek. Politically, he was a Democrat, and took an active part in politics. He held the offices of assessor, collector and constable.
