General Notes: Husband - George Duffield

The Duffields were of Huguenot origin, their forefathers having escaped from France on account of religious persecution and settled in England; and afterwards passed over into the north of Ireland. The name was originally Du Fielde, but became Anglicised after the family settled in England. From England the immediate ancestor of the American pioneer, went to the North of Ireland.

He left the north of Ireland and settled first in Octorara township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, at some time between 1725 and 1730. He is supposed to have descended from a Huguenot family which had taken refuge under the British crown in consequence of the revocation of the edict of Nantz. At the time, however, at which his son, George, was born, (October, 1732,) the family resided at Pequea, Lancaster County. He died there at the advanced age of eighty-four years, having been noted "for his stern integrity and devoted piety."
