General Notes: Husband - Samuel Bell


He was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and grew to manhood in Butler County. The family located in Washington township, and later he opened a store at North Washington, being one of the early merchants of that place. He subsequently purchased 200 acres of land, on the line of Washington and Concord townships. Here he resided until his death. This property embraced the farms later owned by his sons, Nelson P. and Andrew I.
He served in the War of 1812.

North Washington, Butler County, PA, was platted in 1834, the first house, a tavern, was built there prior to 1830, by Samuel Bell, which was known as Summit Tavern.
