General Notes: Husband - William Lamech Scholl

He was born on the family homestead, in the old log house which was still standing well into the twentieth century. As a youth he was his father's assistant in the labors of the farm and later they became joint owners. In the course of time, he became the sole possessor, holding one hundred and twenty-five of the original acres. In 1886 he built a dwelling on the site of the old stone house, and in 1888 he erected the barn. In addition to the homestead Mr. Scholl owned another farm one mile distant which he used as pasture and which was planted with bluegrass. That farm comprised sixty acres, and he was also the owner of an eighty acre farm in Rostraver township. He always employed the most advanced methods and used the most modern machinery. About 1880 he entered upon a career as a breeder of stock, making a specialty of short-horned cattle, and also breeding horses, including Shire, Clyde and Percheron. He gave special attention to heavy horses and was rewarded with many fine specimens. The coal which underlay his farm was sold at about one hundred dollars per acre, and he still retained the coal under the farm in Rostraver township. He was a stockholder and director of the Farmers' and Merchants' Bank at West Newton. In politics he maintained the tradition of his family, always upholding the principles of the Republican party. For five years he filled the office of township supervisor.
