He received his education at the schools of the period and was reared a farmer, and helped his father in the grist-mill which he afterward owned and conducted for some time. was a member of the Republican party for many years, but was later a supporter of the Prohibition party. He and family were members of Fairview Methodist Episcopal Church. He held office of trustee and class leader, and was a bible teacher for over ten years. [HMC 1888, 1082]
