General Notes: Husband - Joseph W. Taylor

In early life he taught school and then embarked in mercantile business with his brother John in Pennsylvania, but was not successful and fell back to farming. He settled on a farm near Keokuk, Iowa, in 1845, where he lived until his death. He enlisted in the Civil war in the 34th Iowa regiment, known as the Greybeard Regiment, and although nearly 60 years of age he was in the service two years. After his death his widow and children all moved to Washington Territory, where the oldest son, James, had been living for several years and had been sheriff of Whitman County.
