General Notes: Husband - Joseph Wallace

He attended school in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. When not at school, he spent his time in clearing away the brush and timber, and turning the wilderness into fruitful fields. In 1824 he went to Rochester, which at that time contained only about half a dozen houses. Here he learned the business of keel boat building, and was soon promoted to the position of foreman. He next engaged in the business of building steamboats, and helped to construct the first steamboat built at Shousetown. He worked at this business in Pittsburgh, Steubenville, Brownsville and Monongahela City. Soon after his marriage they settled on the farm where they long resided. He was an active member of the New Bethlehem U. P. church beginning from its organization.

He was a native of Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and was for a time engaged in boat building. He later purchased a farm, which he cultivated. When he purchased his farm he paid six dollars per acre. He erected a commodious and fine looking dwelling upon his land, and added other buildings from time to time.

General Notes: Wife - Rachel Spence

She was brought to America when but two years of age from her native land, Ireland.
