He was born in 1821. [BHCWC, 382]

He fol-lowed farming. In politics he was a republican and an abolitionist, giving liberally of his means to support the cause of anti-slavery. He took a deep interest in the cause of education and did much in support of the common school system. The religious denomination of his choice was the Baptist church, in which he was a deacon from the time he reached maturity until his death.

He and his wife had eight children, five sons and three daughters.
