General Notes: Husband - Thomas Scott

He emigrated from Ireland to America in 1796, being then a young man of some twenty-two summers. After landing, he proceeded to Washington County, Pennsylvania, making a settlement on Mingo creek, in Union township, where he cleared the land and followed farming and milling until 1850, in which year he moved into Monongahela City, and there his useful life ended. In politics he was a Whig, in religion a member of the Mingo Creek Presbyterian Church.

On April 6, 1800, he purchased the tract of land on Mingo Creek in Washington County, Pennsylvania, upon which, near the bank of the creek, stood at that time a large log mill, and near by a log house, the latter of which was erected in 1790, and was still standing firm a century later. Together with his sister Mary, he took possession of this house on the date of purchase and attended the mill, which was an undershot wheel mill. In 1812 he erected a mill on Mingo, later owned by R. Cowan. This mill had undershot wheels. In 1831 he applied a steam engine to this mill. In 1835 he sold the mill and farm to Samuel Morgan, and bought what was known as the Bentley mill and farm, later known as the Harrison Distillery, which was situated a short distance up from the mouth of Mingo creek. His wife and son John died there.

He died February 24. [CBRWC, 318]
