General Notes: Husband - John B. Rodgers

He was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting August 15, 1862, for nine months service from Plain Grove township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, being then not yet twenty years of age. He enlisted in Company B, One Hundred and Thirty-fourth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and while serving with that regiment took part in the battles of Antietam and Fredericksburg. He was honorably discharged and mustered out at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, May 26, 1863, his term having expired. He reenlisted in Plain Grove township, 1864, in Company B, One Hundredth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and served with that command until the close of the war, being finally mustered out with honorable discharge in June, 1865. Under his second enlistment Mr. Rodgers saw hard service and suffered a severe wound. He was engaged in the battles of the Wilderness, Spottsylvania Court House, North Anna River, Cold Harbor, in front of Petersburg, Weldon Railroad and Fort Stedman. He was wounded by a rifle shot on October 17, 1864, while engaged on the left front at Petersburg, the bullet striking him in the leg. He was sent to the hospital at Beverly, New Jersey, there remaining three months, but was allowed a thirty days' furlough in November, then returned to his regiment, serving until the finish.

He was a farmer by occupation, and owned a farm of eighty acres in Mercer and Lawrence counties, Pennsylvania. In politics he was a staunch Republican. In religious faith he was a member of the Methodist church.
