General Notes: Husband - Andrew Proudfoot

Before coming to America in 1754 he had learned the shoemaker's trade. In the deed transferring Clark's Glade to him he is called a "cordwinder"\emdash no doubt a misspelling of cordwainer, an archaic synonym of shoemaker. After settling in York County, Pennsylvania, he followed farming.
He was a deeply religious man, and trained his children with a care uncommon even for that day. He was elected elder in Guinston Church, Hopewell Township, York County, May 15, 1769.
His education was above the average for persons in the common walks of life at that time. His will shows that he prized books and had an unusual number. From the will, also, it may be inferred that he was fairly successful in business, since it is improbable that he brought much money to America with him.

Proudfit's Point was sold to him by Daniel Robinson in 1768.
