General Notes: Husband - Rev. John Nevin Bauman


He attended the common schools of Zwingle, Iowa, until sixteen years of age. He taught one term of school (1876-77) and then entered the preparatory school at Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. From there he went in 1878 to Franklin and Marshall academy at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and completed his academic course. In the autumn of 1879 he entered Franklin and Marshal college and was graduated from that well-known institution of learning as valedictorian of the class of 1883. In the fall of 1883 he was enrolled as a student in the Reformed Theological seminary at Lancaster and graduated from that institution in the class of 1886. Immediately after finishing his theological course he became pastor of the Reformed church at New Salem. He was a member of Carmel Lodge, No. 542, of Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of New Salem; Delmont Council, No. 58, Junior O. U. A. M., and Delmont Grange, No. 859, Patrons of Husbandry.

He received a public school education in Zwingle, Iowa, and later attended Mercersburg Academy at Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, Franklin and Marshall Academy at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, from which he was graduated in 1883, class valedictorian, and the Theological Seminary of Lancaster, from which he was graduated in 1886. At the age of sixteen he engaged in school teaching, an occupation which he followed with success for several terms, teaching two terms in Iowa and one in St. Petersburg, Clarion County. Pennsylvania. For seven years after he was ordained into the ministry he served in the Salem church at Delmont, and beginning in 1894 served in Grace Reformed church at Jeannette, Pennsylvania. In political relations Mr. Bauman was a Democrat on state and national issues, while in local affairs he was independent. He was interested in educational affairs and was a member and director of the school board of Jeannette. He was also a director in the St. Paul's Orphans Home of Butler, Pennsylvania. Fraternally, he held membership in Philanthropy Lodge, No. 225, F. and A. M., Greensburg, Pennsylvania; Urania Chapter; Kedron Commandery, K. T., Greensburg.
