General Notes: Husband - Hon. William Vance

During his earlier life he resided on the home farm in Smith township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, in company with his brother John, whose interest he afterward pur-chased. In 1816 he was elected as representative of Washington County in the State Legislature. He was an enthusiastic member of the Whig party, being a counselor and adviser among his friends, and having favored the tariff bill from its infancy. After his term of office expired, he returned to his farm. He was a liberal contributor and attendant of the Presbyterian Church with which his wife was connected.
