General Notes: Husband - Alexander Hamilton Witman


He was a student under Dr. John B. Otto, and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He followed his profession in Reading until the time of the Civil War, when he became surgeon of the One Hundred and Sixty-sixth Pennsylvania Regiment of one year's men, and was assigned to field hospital work in the Army of the Potomac. After returning home he resumed his practice, continuing until his death.
He was a man who had many friends, and was admired for his jovial disposition, and was well remembered as a humorist. He served as prothonotary of Berks County from 1836 to 1838.
