General Notes: Husband - Eber J. Neely

As a boy he attended the district schools in Beaver township, Clarion County, PA, for a few weeks during the winter, working on his father's farm during the rest of the year. He later supplemented that meager training with extensive reading and association with men of affairs. At the age of twenty-two years he left home and began to work in the oil country by the month, spending most of his time drilling for oil. Beginning in 1875 he was interested in the oil business, doing contract work and drilling for himself. In 1902 he purchased a farm and by 1912 he was the owner of one hundred and sixty-five acres in four different tracts. Most of his time and attention were given to general farming and stock-raising and he also had extensive oil interests. His farms were located in the vicinity of Knox, in Beaver township. Politically he was a Democrat. In the time-honored Masonic order he was affiliated with St. Petersburg Blue Lodge, No. 520, Free and Accepted Masons; Eden Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; and Franklin Commandery, No. 44, Knights Templar. He was likewise connected with St. Petersburg Lodge, No. 413, Knights of Pythias. [GPHAV, 653]
