General Notes: Husband - John Reed


He was born on the family homestead in Slippery Rock township, Butler County, PA, was reared a farmer, and received a common school education. He followed agriculture in connection with mining, having developed and operated a coal mine upon his farm for more than thirty years. In politics, he was a Republican, and was elected a justice of the peace in 1887, and re-elected in 1892. He always took a commendable interest in school affairs, served on the school board, and was one of the original stockholders of the State Normal School. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church of Centreville, in which he filled the positions of trustee and superintendent of Sabbath school.
