General Notes: Husband - Henry J. Mong

During his youth and early manhood he worked on his father's farm during the summers, and in the blast furnaces in winter, there being thirty-two furnaces in operation in the neighborhood. At the age of twenty-two years he began dealing in live stock, buying up herds and driving to eastern counties as far as Harrisburg. When the oil excitement was raging he supplied Oil City with country produce, being the first huckster in the district, continuing a most profitable business for ten years. He was for a year in Venango county, and owned a farm in Beaver township. After returning from Venango lived in Salem township, later moving to Ashland township, where he purchased a farm of two hundred acres. For twenty-five years he was engaged in mercantile business at Mong. About 1895 he sold his store and returned to the farm. In 1907 he sold his farm and retired to Salem. [GPHAV, 579]
