General Notes: Husband - Daniel Younkins
His education was acquired in the public schools and at the Worthington Academy, and he spent all his earlier years on the farm. In 1876 he went to Petrolia, Pennsylvania, as a tool dresser on the oil fields, later became a driller, then a contractor, and finally an oil producer. Occasionally he and his brother John worked in association, and in 1893 a partnership was formed, known as Younkins Brothers. The two brothers operated extensively in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania and employed from one to six sets of workers. Mr. Younkins was a director in the Farmers' National Bank and the Guaranty Safe Deposit & Trust Company, treasurer of the Craigsville Woolen Manufacturing Company, and a member of the board of managers of the Evans Manufacturing Company. As a representative of Democratic interests he was a member of the city council fourteen years, and served for a time as chairman of that body. He was a member of the Knights of Malta, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Woodmen of the World. He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian church, in which he was an elder.
He received his education in the district schools of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and also attended Worthington (Pennsylvania) Academy. In 1876 he became interested in the oil fields of Pennsylvania, operating as the firm of Younkins Brothers, and became one of the large producers in that section of the state. He settled in Butler in 1884, where he became identified with numerous successful enterprises. He was a charter member and vice president of the Guaranty Trust Company; was connected with the People's Telephone Company for many years as vice president, also served as president of the company; was chairman of the board of directors of the Evans Manufacturing Company; was a director of the Automatic Gas Steam Radiator Company of Pittsburgh; and was one of the large real estate and land owners in Butler and Armstrong counties.
He was a Democrat and served as a member of the city council of Butler for fourteen years and as chairman of the council for two terms. He was vice president and organizer of Butler Fair and Exposition Association, in which he took great interest. He was also director of the Ferris Supply Company, Butler. He held membership in the Second United Presbyterian Church, and belonged to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Knights of Malta, and Woodmen of the World.
