He received the foundation of his education in the common schools of Jackson Centre, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, afterward graduating from the Jackson Centre Academy and the Grove City College. He was of the class of modern farmers who are not only prosperous in worldly goods, but have acquired the mental training and the general culture to realize the highest values from their prosperity. He owned farms in both Jackson and Worth Townships. In politics he was a Republican. [HMC 1909, 928]
