He learned the trade of blacksmith and went to London, Mercer County, PA, and established himself in business. This was at a time when the horseshoes were made by hand, as were the nails. He continued that business during the remainder of his active life and he died aged about eighty years.

She was the daughter of a pioneer of East Springfield Township, Mercer County, PA, and she lived to the advanced age of ninety years.
