General Notes: Husband - Robert D. McClure

He was educated at the public schools and when eighteen years old engaged in work about a flour mill at Sandy Lake, PA, for his father and uncle. These mills were known as the "McClure Brothers Flouring Mills." There he labored about eight years, then engaged at the same line of work at Clark's Mills and was there two years, when he went into the live stock business, shipping to Buffalo, New York. On March 21, 1900, he came to Greenville and engaged in the livery and sale stable business, having purchased the J. L. Baker stand, in the Mathews block. He remained there seven years and then bought the McGores property, Nos. 15, 17 and 19 South Water Street, at which point he erected a fine tile block barn on a frontage of ninety-six feet by one hundred and thirty-two feet. This barn was forty-eight by one hundred and twelve feet, with an ell forty-eight by seventy-eight feet, making it one of the finest barns in Mercer County. He had dwelling apartments on the second floor, with perfect sanitary conditions. There he bought and sold horses. Next to his barn was a fine ten-room residence which he owned. Mr. McClure was one of the active business men of the town. He was a stockholder and director in the West Salem Percheron Horse Company. Politically he was a Republican, but did not care for office holding. He belonged to the Elks fraternity, Lodge No. 145; also to the Knights of Pythias, Custer Lodge No. 469. [HMC 1909, 841]
