He followed the trade of carpenter for twenty years. He owned a farm of 155 acres, part of the old Baker homestead, and which contained probably the oldest orchard in the county.
He and his wife were members of the North Branch Presbyterian church, of which he was a trustee. He was a Democrat, and served as school director, treasurer, auditor and collector.
