General Notes: Husband - Allen Stewart

At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted for service in the Union ranks as a member of Company E, Seventy-eighth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He partici­pated in a number of engagements marking the progress of the war and after the close of hos­tilities returned to his father's farm in Toby township. This estate eventually came into his possession and at the time of his demise, he was the owner of a farm of two hundred and twenty-five acres. He made a great many improvements on his farm and erected a beautiful residence and substantial barns.
